Licensed General Contractor
It's all possible
RCH is a Licensed General Contractor dedicated to quality home improvements at affordable prices with honesty, integrity, and pride.
In most towns, especially here on Long Island, it is illegal to sell or perform home improvements without a License.
The License tells you, the home owner, that the company you are considering has gone through a background check and that the partners/owners of that company haven't left behind a trail of closed Contracting Businesses.
The license also tells you that the company has made an effort to establish themselves in the community and that they are willing to be governed by the rules of conduct set forth
by the county.
On a more serious note, if a Code Enforcement officer decides to do a random check of your construction site and the contractor is unlicensed, the contractor's vehicle and tools may be confiscated. That will stop your job.
Also, if the work being performed requires a permit, the unlicensed contractor cannot sign that application. Often, that unlicensed person will use another contractor's license to get your job. If anything goes wrong...someone gets injured or there is serious property damage, the insurance companies may not be obligated to honor the claims because the parties involved engaged in unlawful acts of mis-representation. That could leave you holding debt & liabilities.
An unlicensed contractor can leave your job in the middle and you would have little recourse in getting
assistance from the county.
ALWAYS ask to see your contractor's license. It is not an insult or a sign of mistrust.
It is a sign of a knowledgeable home owner who is seeking to protect their interests.
A licensed contractor should be proud to show you the license, not angry. If there is any hesitation at all to show you the license, the red flags should go up and you should reconsider your choice.
In the case of a project that involves a PERMIT, it is extremely important that you see the license to be sure that it reads
"LICENSED GENERAL CONTRACTOR"
and not Framing or Mason. Only a GENERAL CONTRACTOR is permitted to sub-contract or
perform work in all trades.
